Species: APATITE-CaOH Locality: Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH Specimen Size: 6 mm field of view. Botryodal, cream-colored apatite with clear quartz crystals Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u1031 Notes: EDS analysis identified the species as apatite, but did not differentiate apatite-CaF vs. apatite-CaOH. Further analysis is planned. Tentative CaOH identification based on similarity to Palermo form. Analysis: P (2.01) = 949; Ca (3.69) = 1793; Mn (5.90) = 79; Fe (6.40) = 91; Background 3/10 = 61/14 The radial structure of these balls is visable in the top right of the photo. |

Species: APATITE-CaOH Locality: Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH Specimen Size: 0.4 mm botryodal, cream-colored apatite ball on quartz. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u1031 Notes: Another view from specimen u1031 |

Species: APATITE Locality: Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH Specimen Size: 3 cm specimen of massive white apatite. Field Collected: From crate of Palermo rocks given by Bob Whitmore. Catalog No.: Notes: EDS analysis identified the species as apatite, but did not differentiate apatite-CaF vs. apatite-CaOH. Massive apatite such as this is easily overlooked on the mine dumps. Prior to analysis, I thought this might be massive augelite. Pale rose-colored fluorescence observed with short-wave UV. |

Species: GOYAZITE Locality: Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH Specimen Size: 3 mm field of view with a dozen 0.1 to 0.3 mm milky, frosty, cubic, goyazite crystals. Field Collected: From crate of Palermo rocks given by Bob Whitmore. Catalog No.: Notes: |

Species: CHABAZITE Locality: Ellacoya Locale, Gilford, NH Specimen Size: 10 mm cluster of milky, rhombic, chabazite crystals. Largest is 4 mm. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u1131 Notes: Rhombic shape and luster of these crystals is characteristic of chabazite. EDS analysis of similar crystals from the Ellacoya locale indicates the species is chabazite: (Ca,K2,Na2)2[Al2Si4O12]2 · 12H2O |

Species: BERYLLONITE Locality: Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH Specimen Size: 5 mm field of view. Tabular, "cordwood-twinned" milky beryllonite crystal. Clear, prismatic apatite crystal on left. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer (Oct. 2010) Catalog No.: Notes: EDS confirmation pending |

Species: MOREASITE Locality: Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH Specimen Size: 5 mm field of view. Brilliant white fibrous moraesite. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer (Oct. 2010) Catalog No.: Notes: No fluorescence observed, so moraesite, not uralolite. Found in close proximity to beryllonite, above, (both are beryllium phosphate minerals). This is the first report of moraesite at the Chickering Mine. |

Species: MOREASITE Locality: Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH Specimen Size: 2 mm zoom view of specimen above. Brilliant white fibrous moraesite. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer (Oct. 2010) Catalog No.: Notes: Fibrous structure of the moraesite is more evident in this view. |
